Giving a Commercial Software Platform a Brand Built for Speed, Clarity, and Growth

Turning an internal engineering tool into a market-ready software brand

Stoke Space, a fast-growing aerospace innovator, had developed a cloud-based engineering platform to help teams coordinate designs, parts, and people in a more modern, connected way. What began as an internal solution had matured into a commercial offering with broader relevance across hardware-intensive industries.

Bringing that product to market required more than a name. The business needed a brand that could express its value clearly, stand apart in a complex category, and give internal teams a stronger platform for telling a consistent commercial story.

CMG was engaged to lead an informed, methodical, and collaborative external brand naming. We brought together outside-in and inside-out inputs, combining stakeholder and customer interviews, competitive review, value proposition refinement, differentiator work, and persona alignment to define the strategic foundation for naming. That work helped clarify not only what the platform did, but why it mattered to the people building complex hardware under pressure.

From there, CMG translated strategy into naming exploration. We developed ten ideation themes and generated more than 700 candidate names, then guided the team through multiple rounds of screening based on strategic fit, naming best practices, digital availability, and trademark considerations. The process helped move the team beyond subjective preference and toward a name that was both meaningful and more practical to own.

The result was a sharper, more scalable brand for a builder-first software offering, one designed to convey speed, connected workflows, and better visibility across the hardware development process. Once the naming direction was finalized, CMG extended the work into a broader identity system, developing brand guidelines, custom iconography, presentation templates, business cards, and sales materials that gave the client a cohesive platform for internal alignment and external go-to-market efforts.

This engagement demonstrates CMG’s ability to turn a complex rebrand into a disciplined growth lever. By grounding creativity in strategy, customer relevance, and practical clearance criteria, CMG helped transform a capable internal platform into a market-ready brand with stronger positioning, clearer differentiation, and the tools needed to support commercialization.

Throughout the process I was so thankful to have CMG’s structured approach to branding in play. We thought far outside of our existing perspectives, and at the same time CMG was attentive and flexible as we fed the creative process to put our best foot forward.
